After a “horrendous” 2024 outdoor season, the last thing that Gloucester Athletic Club’s Ella Edwards would have expected to begin 2025 with was a national medal, let alone a new personal best, and a chance to compete against some world-class athletes.

But the 18-year-old sprinter managed to turn her disappointment into motivation, and after a block of winter training that had her feeling in the shape of her life, the start to 2025 would be a whirlwind.

Together with Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly, the Newcastle defender was one of two first-time call-ups in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Johnson’s former side, Latvia.

  • ANIS MEHMETI ON PORTSMOUTH WIN, 'BRILLIANT' BIRD, BRISTOL CITY COMPETITION AND PLYMOUTH TEST

    BRISTOL LIVE - DECEMBER 2024

Bristol City winger Anis Mehmeti hates being on the bench more than most. With a real hunger to improve, the disappointment drives him to do extra work behind the scenes at the Robins High-Performance Centre.

The 23-year-old responded to being dropped from the starting XI on Boxing Day by putting on a statement performance, scoring twice in a 3-0 win over Portsmouth. Both Liam Manning and Chris Hogg have been on the record with how hard the Albanian has been trying to reach a consistent level of performance. He has put the time in to develop relationships with the creative players around him, staying behind to improve the finer details and learning to make smarter decisions. After extending his tally to eight goals on the season, Mehmeti is the Robins’ top scorer and is seeing his hard work pay off.

  • REPORT: BRISTOL CITY CLOSE GAP TO TOP SIX AS REDS START 2025 IN BS3 WITH WIN VS DERBY COUNTY

    BRISTOL LIVE - JANUARY 2025

Bristol City moved within three points of the Championship play-off positions with a 1-0 victory over Derby County at Ashton Gate. The Robins’ only goal came through Luke McNally, who slid in to get on the end of a wide Scott Twine free-kick after 19 minutes. City goalkeeper Max O’Leary was required to pull off two acrobatic saves in the first half to keep the visitors out, which meant that Liam Manning’s side went into the break with the lead. about me

Hi! My name is Sam Moores, and I am currently a final-year BA (Hons) Sports Journalism student at the University of Gloucestershire.

Over my time at university, I have put together a portfolio of work experience, covering a range of sports, from Football to Athletics for the likes of Bristol Live, Gloucestershire Live, the Western Daily Press, and the Western Gazette.

As well as my experience in external media, I also have one year of internship experience in internal media at Forest Green Rovers. For the 2023/2024 season, I had the title of ‘Women’s Social Media Manager’, and was solely responsible for the output on the club’s social channels both on matchday and during the week.

I also have experience podcasting, as in 2023 I took on hosting duties for the flagship NFL Podcast of NFL Communications accredited outlet Full10Yards, after a few years of contributing to their website. Now in its second full season, we have already recorded over 60 episodes and have grown our audience.
